TYPES OF SMOKE DAMAGE

Smoke damage is created after a fire has been distinguished in a home or business. It can be problematic and cause serious health damage. It will cause discoloration of walls and it will sink into all property contents, causing smoke odor that will last for a long period. The cause of smoke damage determines what kind of treatment will work best. Each type of smoke damage requires its own treatment.

Types of Smoke Damage

  1. Wet smoke

This type of smoke damage creates a layer of residue that is thick and sticky. Wet smoke tends to build up on surfaces following a fire. It considered the worst kind of restoration. It creates a strong odor that can caused headache and other health problems.   1. Petroleum Smoke

Petroleum smoke or soot residue is caused by fires that burn any kind of oil or oily substance. It is very dark and caused by puff backs or blockages to exhausts. This smoke or soot can be released in very large quantities. Petroleum smoke can be cleaned away by a degreasing agent because of its oily nature.

  1. Other types of smoke damage

These include tear gas, fingerprint powder, and carbon dioxide fire extinguisher residue.

Rooms inside the building that were not reached by flames may suffer smoke damage, as smoke can travel from room to room and through ventilation systems. Each type of smoke damage requires a different cleaning approach, and only a thorough cleaning is sufficient to remove the hazards posed by smoke damage.
